Age Spots Freckles Sun-Damage

The Baywood Clinic offers a variety of treatments for age spots, freckles and generalized sun-damage.

All treatments are provided by our Board Certified Physicians. Your initial consultation with the doctor sets out a specific plan, that will usually include topical medication.

Laser Treatments available include:

Q-Switched Alexandrite laser: We are one of the only clinics in Canada to operate this laser. It is excellent for isolated spots of the face and hands, in all skin types. It can also be used on some birth marks

Q- Switched Yag Laser: This is used for isolated spots on the hands and face. There is some slight bruising that fades over a week or so.

Long Pulsed Alexandrite laser
: This laser is used for more generalized sun damage.

Generally 1 – 3 sessions are needed. The cost is $150 for 1 – 3 spots, $250 for 4 – 6 spots, and $400 for more than 6 spots, or the full face.

Laser Micropeels: These exciting new treatments can provide very dramatic improvement of facial skin (brown spots, fine wrinkles or scars, poor texture). They can be performed on Thursday or Friday, and you can be back at work on Monday! Cost ranges from $700 – $1000 depending on the depth of the peel.

What Can Be Treated

Freckles are only present on sun-exposed skin. Gebetically determined, they appear between the ages of 5 and 7. Usually present in blonds and redheads, and fair-skinned persons. They darken is the summer light, and may even fade in the winter.

Solar Lentigines (Age spots) are often confused with freckles. They appear later in life and are darker. They do not darken in summer or lighten in winter. Found on sun exposed areas like face, hands and chest.

We do not remove body “nevi” or “moles” with laser (facial ones may be done). These should be followed by your GP or dermatologist, and if necessary, removed surgically and biopsied. Normal moles appear 6 – 12 months after birth and can be found anywhere on the body. They are smaller than 5mm, and usually number about 10 – 40.
